Orchard Hills Annexation Lawsuit

Town Residents,
After many weeks of deliberation, the Town Board has made the decision to end and settle the lawsuit against the City of Eau Claire over the Orchard Hills annexation. Without question, the Board would like the land to remain in the Town of Washington. Unfortunately, Eau Claire County rejected this proposal, even though the Town Board was unanimous in voting for the rezone that would have allowed a rural residential development in the Town. Thereafter, Eau Claire promptly annexed the territory and more. The Town has stood its ground throughout the annexation battle with the City. We have fought and advocated long and hard on many levels regarding our position. We have made some gains along the way, yet State statute and case law with regard to annexation is averse to towns. Therefore, this legal option is at its end.
Is the Town satisfied? Of course not. The Town remains vigilant and will forge on.
